About Anthony Funeral Homes & Crematory

Serving Families Throughout Summit And Stark Counties. Located In Akron, Cuyahoga Falls, And Green.

Anthony Funeral Homes began in 1917, when A.J. Kucko, a recent immigrant from Slovakia, opened Kucko Funeral Home on Exchange Street in Akron. A staple in the Akron community, Mr. Kucko moved the funeral home to the Firestone Park neighborhood in 1963, and then transferred ownership first to his son, Tom Kucko, and then to his daughter Particia and her husband Paul in 1969. After Paul and Patricia were tragically killed in 1974, the ownership of the firm eventually fell upon their son David Anthony, who would bring Kucko-Anthony Funeral Home into the next century.

David proved himself to be a natural fit for the business; having experienced so much loss in his own life, David was able to connect with the families he served in an honest and compassionate way. In 1987, David merged with Stephen A. Kertesz of the Kertesz Funeral Home and moved the newly dubbed Kucko-Anthony-Kertesz Funeral Home to a newly built, state-of-the-art facility on West Waterloo Road that was the largest funeral home in Akron.

In 2000, David opened the Anthony Funeral Home of Green to better serve the growing communities south of Akron. Then in 2002, continuing to grow the business started by his grandfather almost 100 years earlier, David acquired McGowan-Reid and Santos Funeral Home in Cuyahoga Falls.

In 2007, David moved the home to our current location, after the former property was purchased by the Veterans Administration. At 17,000 square feet it remains the largest facility in Summit County and still provides funeral luncheons (up to 100 people) and non-profit events in our Community Room.

David’s son Eric Anthony and daughter Katie Anthony-Clapp both became licensed funeral directors and help to continue the family business and legacy of helping people through their loss with honesty and compassion.

Anthony Funeral Homes Today

The concept that drives the people of the Anthony Family Funeral Homes is that funerals and grief are very real -- real people, experiencing real grief, many for the first time, from real families. When a bereaved family walks through the door of one of our homes for the first time, we see an opportunity to help someone in pain. We know the firestorm of emotions you are experiencing. Your heart is on your sleeve and it is our job, our duty, to respect those sometimes frightening emotions by being gentle and soothing, but above all, honest.
