Virginia Conrad

Virginia Ellen Conrad went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on January 13, 2021 at the age of 99.

She was born in Pulaski, Tennessee on November 5, 1921 and came to Akron as a young girl. She was married to Ellis Conrad on September 22, 1940.

Virginia's life was a living example of her favorite verse, Matthew 25:35-36: "For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I need clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me."

Virginia was a faithful servant at the Firestone Park United Methodist Church for over 60 years, where she was a member of the Alter Guild and Deborah Circle. She also served as a communion steward, and helped with the AARP, Polsky UMC dinners. She volunteered, because of her gracious heart and generous spirit, at Open M and Good Neighbors. Virginia was an exceptional gardener and received numerous Keep Akron Beautiful awards. Virginia was also the assistant Brownie Leader for her daughter's troop.

Virginia was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Ellis Conrad in 2003; son Edward Conrad; daughter Teri McLeod; and great-grandchild Hannah McLeod. She is survived by her daughter Laurel (John) Hill; precious grandchildren Julie Devine, Jeff (Tara) McLeod, Jon (Suzanne) McLeod, Jonathan (Stephanie) Hill, Joey Hill, and Jessica (Rick) Edwards; son-in-law Doug McLeod; and very special daughter-in-law Veronica Conrad. She also leaves behind 11 great-grandchildren whom she adored!

Thank you to her Crossroads hospice team, especially Jackie, Joanne, and Judy, for their compassionate care of Virginia.

The family will receive friends Monday, January 18, from 2-3:00PM at the Anthony Funeral Home, Kucko-Anthony-Kertesz Chapel, 1990 S Main St in Akron, with a funeral service to be celebrated at 3:00PM, Tony Short officiating. Masks and Social Distancing Required. Private burial at Greenlawn Burial Park.
