Susan M. Kalgreen, 72, a lifelong resident of Akron, Ohio, passed away peacefully on April 22, 2023, after a brief illness.
Sue was a very independent, intelligent, articulate, quick-witted, and creative woman who will be greatly missed by her family and friends. She worked for the family business, Akron Bearing Company, and retired from it after almost 50 years of service. While she attended the University of Akron, Sue was a member of the Theta Phi Alpha sorority. Sue was a remarkably talented needlepoint artist whose pieces won awards at Ohio art shows including from Stan Hywet Hall & Garden's Needlework Guild during many Ohio Mart showcases. Among her joys were bird watching at her backyard bird feeders, mystery novels and movies, crossword puzzles, and playing euchre with her friends. But one of Sue's favorite pastimes was to have engaging conversations with people that include a well-chosen word or phrase and a well-crafted pun. She was an individual who had her own unique outlook and sense of style in all aspects of her life.
Sue is preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence and Mary Kalgreen, her brother-in-law Allen Cook and her nephew David Kalgreen. She is survived by her sister Kathryn Cook; her bothers Andrew (Pelagia) Kalgreen, Peter (Diane) Kalgreen, and Matthew (Judy) Kalgreen; her good friend Charles Smith; and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at a later date at Anthony Funeral Home, 1990 South Main Street, Akron, Ohio.
