Stephen Engler, 80, passed away Friday, October 15, 2021 at his home after a brief illness.
Steve was born April 10, 1941, to Jerome and Elizabeth (Welsh) Engler in Akron and had been an area resident most of his life. He was a 1959 graduate of St. Vincent High School and received a Bachelor Degree in Education from the University of Akron. He was a personnel manager for Summit and Stark Counties but his true passion was golf. He spent many hours at Firestone Public working part time and golfing. He was a member of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church.
Steve is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Vivian (Paolucci); children Christy Engler, Stephen (Grace) Engler, Eric Engler and Julie (Joseph) Eckenrode; grandchildren Brad, Anthony and Patrick Engler, Hannah, Joseph and Dakota Eckenrode and Bella, Ariel, Sophia, Malachy, Rashad, Jeremiah, Eloy Engler; siblings Nancy (Jim) Frient, Ellen (Doug) Watson and Max (Cheryl) Engler; many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers Mark, Mike and Jerry and sister Marianne Engler.
The family will receive friends Thursday, October 21, 2021 from 4 to 7 pm at the Anthony Funeral Home of Green, 4178 Massillon Road (corner of Massillon and Steese Roads, entrance off Steese). A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, October 22, 2021 at 11:00am at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, 4109 Manchester Rd., Akron OH 44319. Donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital.
