Santo (Sam) Abbate passed away November 25, 2021. He was born August 13,1931 in Pueblo, CO and lived in Green for over 50 years. He retired after 39 years as a machinist for Goodyear and also taught machine shop and was a US Army Veteran. He was a charter member of Queen of Heaven Catholic Church and in his younger years served on parish council, youth group advisor and did the garden for the parish. He was an avid ballroom dancer in the CYO St. Paul combo group where he met his wife and was a scout leader for his sons. He loved the outdoors all his life and most recently, gardening and feeding the birds at his apartment community.
Santo was preceded in death by his beloved wife Patricia . Also preceded in death by parents Gaspare and Angeline Abbate, sister-in-law Pauline, brothers Anthony and Jim, sister Rose Seprino (Frank). He is survived by children: David of San Antonio TX, Mary Luther (Bill) of Green, Stephen (Janet) of Wadsworth, Michael, James, Ann Ciocca (Jim), Angela Rasicci (Tim) all of Green. Also survived by his brother Joseph, sisters MaryAnn DiVittorio (Tom), Joanne Holmes (Al) and sister-in-law Jane Abbate, all of Calif. Sister-in laws Joann Hoffman (Roger), Mary Lou Jevec (John) and Judi Ninni (Tony), He was a beloved grandpa to 16 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren and a treasured uncle to many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Sunday, December 5, 2021 from 2 to 5 PM at the Anthony Funeral Home of Green, 4178 Massillon Road, Uniontown OH (corner of Massillon and Steese Roads, entrance off Steese Road). A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, December 6, 2021 at 11:00 AM at Queen of Heaven Catholic Church, 1800 Steese Rd. Uniontown OH 44685. Mass will be followed by a reception at the parish and interment with Military Honors will be held at 2:30 PM at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery.
