Rosa Johnson Obituary

Rosa Lee Johnson, 98, passed away Saturday, February 6, 2021 surrounded by her family at home.

Rosa was born in Owensboro, Kentucky on January 5, 1923 to the late William and Marietta Saltsman.  She worked at Ken-Rad making radio tubes all throughout the wartime to support her country and family while her husband Jessie fought overseas as an Army Ranger.  After the War they moved to Akron, Ohio and she worked at BF Goodrich and as a nurse’s aide at Barberton Hospital until retirement.

Rosa was a longtime, faithful member of St. Francis de Sales Church and The Firestone Post VFW 3383. The VFW was a second family to Rosa and her husband Jessie and they spent untold hours serving their fellow veterans and community.   She was a strong, faithful and loving woman who supported everyone in her life with common sense and integrity.

In addition to her parents, Rosa was preceded in death by her husband Jessie; her son Richard; and 8 siblings. She is survived by her daughter Deborah (Lindsey) Herring; Daughter-in-law Patricia Johnson; grandchildren Kevin (Tammy) Johnson, Dave (Nichole) Johnson, Mary Johnson (Tonee Brunson), and Amanda Rose Herring-McCaskey ; 17 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Mass of Christian Burial and memorial services will be held later due to COVID. Rosa will be cremated and interred at Green Lawn Cemetery with her late husband Jessie W. Johnson.
