Robert S. Patterson

Robert S. Patterson, Jr., 82, passed away Friday, September 15, 2023 after a long illness.

Bob was raised in Cuyahoga Falls and resided for the last 48 years in North Canton (Jackson Twp). He began his career at B.F. Goodrich Research and went on to work 20 years as a shop teacher with the Akron Public Schools, before retiring to focus full time on his many hobbies.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert, Sr. and Grace (Peters) Patterson; sister, Jeanne Violette (David); and dogs Buttons, Bijoux, and Jake. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Sharon (McDonald) Patterson; daughter, Carole Patterson (Andrew Dinh); brother, Tom Patterson (Brenda - deceased.); sister, Joanne Eckenrode (Vince -deceased.); and many nieces and nephews.

A true Renaissance Man, Bob was a collector and master of the mechanical and fine arts, which ranged from restoring vintage cars and motorbikes, to rebuilding antique typewriters and Singer sewing machines. He found his creative outlet in photography, painting, woodworking, and growing beautiful flower gardens.

Libraries, reading, and art nurtured his lifelong passion for learning and his curiosity about the world. In turn, he was always eager to share his knowledge and skills with friends and family.

Bob's greatest creative and collaborative endeavor was as a devoted husband to Sharon and dad to Carole. We will deeply miss him.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, 11 a.m. at Queen of Heaven Catholic Church in Green where the family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Fr. David Durkee officiating. Private Interment will take place at a later date at Oakwood Cemetery in Cuyahoga Falls. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Lymphoma and Leukemia Society, which provided Bob grants to support his chemotherapy. Sharon and Carole want to express their deep gratitude for the wonderful care given to Bob by Mercy Hospice; with special thanks to Chelsi, his primary nurse and advocate for the last 3 months.
