Rita Emma Crookston-Halmasy

Rita Crookston-Halmasy, 62, passed away Thursday, May 18, 2023 after a brief battle with cancer.
Rita was born in Barberton to the late Tony and Rita Crookston and was a lifelong area resident. She graduated from CVCA in 1978 and worked for CC Supply for 20 years and then as a teacher at St. Peregrine Academy in Richfield for a number of years. Rita was a faithful member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Chapel where she served as choir director. She enjoyed gardening, music and chasing after her kids and grandkids.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her father-in-law Lawrence Halmasy, Sr; brothers-in-law George Reese & Ray Peters; and sister-in-law Paula Crookston. She is survived by her loving husband Larry; children Maria (Ryan) Hall, Larry, Rachel (John) Matties, Andrew, John, Greta, Joseph, & Vincent Halmasy; grandchildren Zoe, John, Grace, Lillie, & Samuel; siblings Pat Reese Peters, Joanne (Bob) Schmitt, Carol, Larry (Julie), Dan (Karen), Bill, Barbara (Sister Mary Jude), Joe (Donna), Marie (Bill) Luc, Tony III (Linda), Frank (Oriana), and Esther (Joe) Zoeckler; mother-in-law Bonnie Halmasy; many nieces, nephews and extended family.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, May 21 from 4:00 - 8:00 PM at the Anthony Funeral Home, Kucko-Anthony-Kertesz Chapel, 1990 S Main St in Akron. Traditional High Requiem Mass will be celebrated at 11:00AM on Monday, May 22 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Chapel, 2935 Chenoweth Road, Akron OH 44312. Burial at Holy Cross Cemetery will immediately follow. Memorial Contributions may be made to the church.
