Richard Garbinsky, Sr. Obituary

Richard "Garbo" Garbinsky Sr., beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother, died peacefully July 4, 2021, at the age of 81. Dick was born April 26, 1940, in Ambridge, PA and moved to Akron (Firestone Park) at the age of 14 where he lived his entire life. After graduation from Garfield HS in 1958, Dick entered the Army and served our country in Korea. He worked for many years and retired from Summit County Environmental Services. Dad always taught us to work hard and be the best at whatever you did. He had many "retirement" jobs including his fond times at AAA.
Dick loved all sports and was an avid golfer, bowler and fisherman and he shared those passions with his family and friends. He spent many nights and weekends participating in Jednota Club and K of C leagues and tournaments. Dick was also a HUGE Pittsburg Steeler fan and felt sorry for everyone who was not. As big of a Steeler fan as he was, it did not come close to how much he loved watching his children and especially grandchildren play sports. Whether it be a 4-year-old t-ball game or a college soccer game and everything in-between, Dad and Grandpa was there cheering, motivating and of course, coaching. His passion for youth sports was also evident in many years of coaching football for St. Paul's in Akron with his lifelong "Park" friends.
Dick's greatest passion and what he lived for daily was his family and that, of course, begins with his 58-year marriage to the love of his life Louise. Dad and mom are so proud of their family and their legacy lives through all of us. In addition to mom, Dad is survived by his three children Rich (Carolyn), Joe (Barb Ambrosio) Garbinsky and Donna (Matt) Gruic. Grandpa is survived by grandchildren Caity (Mike) Sypherd, Christopher, Nicholas (Angie), Alyssa, Jessica, Emma and Joey Garbinsky and Matthew and Jenna Gruic and great-grandchildren Selah, Cohen and Judah Sypherd. He is also survived by his brother Bob (Barb), sister-in-law Leslie Accurso, many nieces, nephews and countless friends. He was preceded in death by his mother Mary, father Michael, mother-in-law Louise Accurso and in-laws Joe, Francy, Ray, Vita, and Clara.
We are grateful to Dr. Pozsgay and his team and the ICU at Summa Akron City Hospital for the care and love they gave our father and grandfather.
