Richard Jay DeBerry

Richard Jay DeBerry, age 76, finally accepted the Lord's call home on January 24, 2023 after a courageous and fearless battle with pancreatic lymphoma. He was born June 28, 1946 to the late Vernon and Elizabeth DeBerry. He graduated from Garfield High School and enlisted in the U.S. Army spending most of his service in Okinawa during the Vietnam era. He fell in love with his high school sweetheart and best friend, Mary (Dombovich), and their love affair lasted fifty-nine years.
Dick enjoyed music of any kind, singing proudly from his church pew, painting, woodworking, visiting with friends and traveling the country driving all the back roads with Mary.
Dick is survived by his faithful and selfless wife Mary, his wild and beautiful daughter Mary Beth, his son-in-law Chris, who loved him like a second father, and his curious, ever-loving grandson William Flynn Bryson, and his grandpups, Lady who he accepted and Ghost who he despised. He also leaves sister-in-law Billie and brother-in-law Ritchie, brother Marvin, sister Rita and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
On Saturday, January 28, 2023, calling hours will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church, 50 N Prospect St. Akron, OH, from 1-2pm followed immediately by a short service. Burial at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery will be held at a later date.
