Richard K. Blocher, 94, passed away Wednesday, September 8, 2021 due to complications of COVID-19.
He was raised in Massillon, attended Ohio University and upon graduation obtained work in Mansfield and then in Akron with the Fred Bock Advertising Agency. In 1980 he started his own agency and continued as a commercial artist into his early eighties. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving during World War II. He enjoyed golfing, sailing, and his artwork- especially painting and spending summer at the family cottage on Turkeyfoot Lake. It seemed like every day was a beach day at the lake; may it continue to be so.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Kent and Jessie Blocher; wife Lois J.; and son Rick. He is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law, Becky & Tom Armstrong and Cindy & Mike Cifranic; sister Doris Morton; grandchildren Renee (John) Enriquez, Lauren (Steve) Scollin, Keith Armstrong, and Michael (Carey) Cifranic; and great-grandchildren Raegen & Amelia Cifranic.
Thank you to the staff at Chapel Hill Community for their tender care.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday, September 28 at 12noon, at the Anthony Funeral Home, Kucko-Anthony-Kertesz Chapel, 1990 S Main St in Akron, where the family will receive friends one hour prior to service beginning at 11AM. Donations may be made to a charity of choice.
