Norma Grace Kopko unexpectedly passed into eternity on Holy Saturday April 3, 2021, at age 83. She was born in Pittsburgh, PA to Nicholas and Isabel Chavern. She and her husband Peter were married for sixty marvelous, loving years. They met on their very first day at Duquesne University in the Fall of 1956. Educated as a teacher, she exemplified those talents as an outstanding mother who raised five beautiful children who, to her joy and delight, brought fifteen cherished grandchildren and recently the first great-grandchild into the world. Like a mother bird, she nurtured all under her wing, and also encouraged independence.
Her life was infused with wonder and a love of God and of all creation, birds especially. She bestowed her home and table with beauty: art, flowers, music, poems and prayers, along with so many wonderfully and creatively prepared meals and holiday feasts, to make the Kopko home a place of hospitality and welcome. She had a ready smile and willingness to play games, sing songs, and just laugh. And what a great laugh.
Norma smilingly and graciously responded to the grandchildren as Baba, Mum-Mum or Nana. They have expressed remembrances of her as: kind, loving, caring, thoughtful, patient, thorough, faithful, compassionate, cheerful, gentle, pious, clever, deep, kind-hearted, generous, humble, pure, good, talented, hopeful, supportive, beautiful, spirited and sweet. What a tribute and honor to an absolutely fantastic woman!
Always thoughtful of others, using details on her desk-top calendar, with grace she meticulously communicated her sentiments on every birthday, seasonal holiday, joyful occasion, deaths of family or friends - all written in her neat hand. The imprint she made is indelible, and she will be sadly missed by everyone who knew her.
