Mark Daniel Hanchett

Rev. Mark Daniel Hanchett was called to be with our Lord on Tuesday, September 7, 2021, at the age of 57. Mark died peacefully at his home with his wife Kathleen by his side. In addition to his wife Kathleen of 32 years, he is survived by his children Kaitlyn (Rayce) Blackford, Craig and Jacob Hanchett, and his grandson Calloway Blackford. Mark is survived also by his mother Annette Hanchett and siblings Paul (Peggy) Hanchett and Marlene (Bradley) Schickling; along with many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Larry D. Hanchett.

Pastor Mark felt called into ministry at a young age and followed in the footsteps of his grandfather Rev. Gilbert Olsen following an earlier career as a Civil Engineer. Pastor Mark had a passion for reaching those who did not know his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He has touched many with his teaching of the gospel.

Pastor Mark was ordained and installed at St. John Lutheran Church September 1, 2013 where he faithfully served for 8 years. He was also the Circuit Visitor for the LCMS Ohio District. Mark transitioned to Pastor Emeritus following a massive stroke the summer of 2019.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at St. John Lutheran Church on 550 E Wilbeth Rd Akron on Monday, September 13th at 12 noon. Visitation for family and friends will begin at 10am prior to the service and a luncheon will follow. Mark will be laid to rest at Tallmadge Cemetery at 2 pm. Memorials in Mark's honor can be made to St. John Lutheran Church, Akron, Ohio.
