Leslie Radwany Obituary

Leslie S. Radwany, Jr. “Les” died peacefully on Monday, February 8 after a very short battle with lung disease and Covid.
He was born in Akron, OH on January 22, 1942 to Les and Rose (Smith) Radwany.  Les attended St. Martha Grade School, Archbishop Hoban High School (class of ’60) and graduated from The University of Akron (class of ’67) where he was a member of Lone Star Fraternity.    In 1963 he married Linda Dangel and they had 57 wonderful and exciting years together.  They had two sons and over the years cared for 63 foster children, eventually adopting two daughters.
As a young man he truly enjoyed coaching CYO football.  Many of his former players consider him the best coach they ever had.  More recently, he served as a mentor and tutor at Forrest Hill CLC and taught Junior Achievement at Jennings Junior High School.  He was currently mentoring a young man through the United Way Mentoring Program.  Always generously giving of his time, treasure and talent, he served on many Boards including Archbishop Hoban High School, First Friday Club of Greater Akron, Heart to Heart Communications and Congress Lake Country Club among many others.  He also served as a major fundraiser for organizations such as Catholic Charities of Summit County and CYO Camp Christopher.  Les wasn’t afraid to ask people for money if it would benefit someone else.
As a Catholic, Les was very involved at every parish in which he lived.  He served on three Pastoral Councils, two Finance Committees, an RCIA Team and he chaired a major church renovation in Royal Oak, Michigan.  In addition, he taught at several Parish Schools of Religion, led Pre-Cana Classes, and attended multiple Bible Studies.
Founder and President of Consolidated Benefits Agency, he spent 53 years in the insurance industry, earning the professional designations of CLU and Ch.FC.  He retired just three months ago at the age of 78.  He served his clients well.  His mascot was a bulldog because he was tenacious in researching and finding his clients the best products to suit their needs.  He said, “The three most important things in business are integrity, integrity and integrity.  Say what you mean and mean what you say!”
He was preceded in death by his parents, Rose and Les, his in-laws, Mary and Bernard Dangel, brother-in-law Carl Dangel, sister-in-law Janet Myers, nephews Michael Dangel and Bob Berzonsky and many beloved aunts and uncles.
Les loved the game of golf.  He played his last round just last month.  One of his great life experiences was playing all the Old Courses in Scotland.  Thank you to his many golfing buddies for sharing many enjoyable hours with him and for forgiving him when he threw a club once in a while (Les was very competitive!)
In addition to his wife, Linda, Les is survived by his children Joseph (Beth Woodworth), Timothy, Theresa Lauer and Kristen Radwany (Alan Brown); his sister, Lizbeth Radwany and his brother Skip (Julia) Radwany; sister-in law Joanie Dangel and brothers-in- law Tom (Poochie) Dangel and Jack (Fran) Myers.
Les always said, “The only reason to put up with having children is so you can have grandchildren.”  His beloved grandchildren are Rush (Kelsey Thompson), Rheal (Greg Towel), Basil, Clara, Lindsey, Gracey and Luke Radwany, Michael and Emma Lauer and Tony Kirk.  Though they called him ”The Stern Grandad”, he had a heart of gold and they will miss his love, his example and his guidance. The title Dad or Grandad wasn’t reserved only for his family.  There are dozens of other young people who considered him their surrogate father or grandfather because of his welcoming nature, his wise advice (sometimes unsolicited) and his loving guidance.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Fr. Norm Douglas on Monday, February 22, 11:00 am, at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, 1905 Portage Trail, Cuyahoga Falls, OH 44223.  Calling hours will be from 9:00 to 11:00 at the church with masks and social distancing required.  The Mass will be live streamed on the Anthony Funeral Homes Facebook Page.  The family suggests donations to Archbishop Hoban High School One Holy Cross Blvd, Akron, OH 44306 or by visiting www.hoban.org/support-hoban/give or to CYO Camp Christopher c/o Catholic Charities  7911 Detroit Avenue, Cleveland, OH 44102 or by visiting www.ccdocle.org/campaigns/partners-in-giving.
