John Martin Strefeler, Ph.D, CPA, CMA, CFM, 74, passed away September 26, 2021, in Kailua, Hawaii. John was born July 14 (Bastille Day as he liked to remind everyone), 1947, to Robert and Ruth (Manthey) Strefeler. He graduated from Kent State University in 1968; received his MA and PhD in accounting from the University of Arizona, Tucson in 1976; a masters in Taxation from Golden Gate University, San Francisco, in 1996; and CPA in 1997. He was also an IRS Enrolled Agent. He was a professor of accounting at the Universities of Hawaii, Manoa and Nevada, Reno before retiring as a professor of accounting at Mount Union University, Alliance OH. He enjoyed active memberships in the American Accounting Association, the Institute of Management Accountants and the Institute of Certified Management and Financial Accountants. Being a member of the Society of Baseball Research (SABR) was one of his passions. Following retirement he lived in North Canton OH and Kailua HI. He was a faithful member of Queen of Heaven Catholic Church in Green and St. Anthony of Padua in Kailua.
John is survived by his beloved wife Mary Kathleen "Kate" (Goodish), and siblings Gary (Debbie), Neal and Susan Strefeler, and nieces Wendy (Strefeler) Colorusso
and Melissa Strefeler.
The family will receive friends Monday, September 26, 2022, from 10 to 11am at Queen of Heaven Catholic Church, 1800 Steese Rd., Uniontown OH 44685 and will be followed by the Celebration of a Mass of Christian Burial at 11am. A luncheon will follow Mass and inurnment will be at Holy Cross Cemetery. Donations may be made to Queen of Heaven Society of St. Vincent de Paul.
