Joan M. Hodson, 81, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 24, after a long illness.
Joan was born in Akron to the late Mary & Anthony Luxeder, was a graduate of St. Mary High School, and briefly worked for Ohio Edison. Joan volunteered for the Cuyahoga Falls School System, and went on to work for the district for over 20 years. She was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish, where she volunteered laundering church linens, worked to serve and prepare funeral meals, and was a member of the Altar & Rosary Society. her deep faith and love for her Lord carried her throughout her life.
Due to her daughter's Illness, Joan helped to raise a granddaughter and later went on to take care of two other granddaughters. She believed that her calling was to help people in need. Besides enjoying polka music and flowers, she loved the sound of birds and chimes. She loved nature, especially feeding many of God's creatures who would stop by for a visit.
In addition to her parents, Joan was preceded in death by her husband William and daughter Joan; brothers Anthony & Robert and sister Betty Haugen. She is survived by her children Debbie (Steve) Gough, Bill (Mindy), Brian, & Lisa Davis; grandchildren Charla, Alexis, Emily, Taylor, Kylee, & Brandon; great-grandson Daniel; brother Richard (Barbara) & Thomas (Johnette) Luxeder.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, October 3, at 12 pm at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, 1905 Portage Trail in Cuyahoga Falls, where the family will receive friends from 10 am until 12 pm. A private burial will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery in Akron. In lieu of flowers, please make a contribution in Joan's memory to IHM Parish. (Anthony, FALLS, anthoynfh.com)
