James A. Turns, 75, passed away unexpectedly on September 10, 2022 due to an automobile accident.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents Clarence and Grace Turns; parents-in-law William & Rita Beadling; his sister-in-law Suzanne(Kevin)Self; brothers-in-law Bruce Beadling, Dr. Harry Bjornstad, and Kevin Self; and brothers William DeMeio and Bill Turns. He is survived by his wife of 54 years Shirley (Beadling)Turns; children Kelley (Chris) Stillwagon, Brent (Deanna) Turns, Ryan Turns, and Heather Macias; grandchildren Michael & Lauren Stillwagon, Grace, Sarah & Matthew Kress, Hailey & Max Macias, and Olivia Turns; sister Judy Dixon; nephew Ron (Pam) Dixon; and brother Donald (Barbara) DeMeio; sister-in-law Barbara Bjornstad (Chuck Bell); brother-in-law Jeff (Lorri) Beadling; as well as beloved many nieces, nephews and friends.
Jim was born in Canton and was a lifelong area resident. He graduated from Jackson High School in 1965 and earned an Associate of Science from Kent State University. Owned and operated a local favorite tavern, The Turns Inn. He enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corp and served in Vietnam. Upon returning from war, he started his apprenticeship in the electricians IBEW local 540. He spent the next 40 years dedicated to his trade, learning and mentoring his "brothers and sisters." Always ready to take on challenging roles and offering a helping hand. He served many roles in his field including general manager, but his favorite role coming home and being Dad. He spent a majority of his career working for Triangle Electric. He enjoyed coaching his children's sports and spending time with his grandchildren. After retirement, he loved camping and traveling on cruise ships with Shirley. He took pride in transforming his back yard into a bird and wildlife sanctuary, where he spent hours caring for all the animals who came to visit. He was generous with his time and would always help a friend in need. He will be eternally missed by his friends and family.
Funeral services will be held at the Anthony Funeral Home of Green at 4178 Massillon Road, Uniontown. Calling hours will be held on Sunday, September 18th from 2-4PM, followed by a brief service. An honorable veterans' burial will be held at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery on Monday, September 19th promptly at 10:15AM. Immediately followed by a Celebration of Life at the Banquet Center at the Galaxy.
