Irene M. McAvinew, 88, passed away peacefully Thursday, December 2, 2021.
Irene was born in Akron to the late Marie & Julius Sterner and was a lifelong area resident. She married Dave Lees in the 50s and was left widowed with two young children in 1962. She later married Kenny Moore and they gave the children many wonderful childhood memories. She worked as a plant manager secretary at Firestone for 30 years. Irene was very crafty and loved learning new skills and talents. She loved to have fun and always had a smile on her face. Her determination and strength helped her overcome the many trials she faced during her life. She worked hard and she played hard, enjoying life to the fullest no matter what was thrown at her.
In addition to her parents and first husband, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 35 years, Jack McAvinew. She is survived by her son David (Crystal) Lees; daughter Sherry (Paul) McIntyre; stepchildren Jennie Cuppett, Jody (Brian) Field, and Eric (Dorothy) McAvinew; grandchildren Shari (Buck) Walker, David (Sara) Lees, Eric (Krista) McIntyre, Brian Cuppett, Zachary & Joseph Field, and Rachel & Jack McAvinew; greatgrandchildren David, Abby, Isaac, Jasey & Rowan; siblings Judie Snivley & Bud (Helen) Sterner; and many nieces, nephews, and other loved ones.
