Helen Elefritz Obituary

Helen A. Elefritz, beloved Wife, Mother, Sister and Friend went to be with her Lord Jesus Christ on September 23, 2019. Helen died peacefully at home after a prolonged battle with advanced Ovarian cancer.

Helen was born July 30,1938 in the Firestone Park area to George and Helen Segedy (Szabo) Helen graduated from St. Paul's grade school in 1952 and Our Lady of the Elms in 1956, she later attended The University of Akron and was a member of Theta Phi Alpha sorority

In 1958 Helen married James V. Elefritz and resided in East Akron where they had two sons James and Richard. In 1991 Helen retired from Ohio Bell after 25 years of service as a supervisor of engineering records. In that same year Helen moved to Northwest Akron where she lived for 28 years.

Helen was a long time parishioner of Annunciation (Visitation of Mary) Catholic Church. During the Annunciation school years Helen was a Cub Scout den mother and CCD teacher. After her son's attended Archbishop Hoban High School, Helen became involved working on various fundraisers at Hoban as well as serving as one time Treasurer of Hoban's Mother's Club. Throughout her life Helen was very involved in her Catholic faith and was a long time supporter of Catholic Charities as well as various missions and community outreach programs.

Helen had a great interest and support for various historic and preservation groups including The Colonial Williamsburg Foundation, Mount Vernon, The Historic Trust for Preservation as well as various organizations dedicated to historic Civil War battlefield preservation. Locally Helen was a supporter of Stan Hywet and The Tuesday Musical Organization. Helen was also very proud of her Hungarian heritage.

In her lifetime Helen enjoyed reading, gardening, travelling visiting many historic sights in America as well as Europe, needlepointing, sewing and crocheting. In addition Helen was a collector of antiques enjoying silverware, glassware, cameos and many other items with a strong emphasis on the Victorian Era.

Helen is preceeded in death by her parents George and Helen Segedy. Beloved husband James V. Elefritz, sister in law Ann Marie Segedy, Aunt Loretta Plogger, brother in law Lloyd Elefritz as well as many members of the Segedy, Szabo and Elefritz families and various friends.

Helen leaves behind son James (Patricia) of Columbus, Ohio, grandchildren Jessica, Benjamin (Kelsey) and Danielle as well as son Richard of Akron. Helen is also survived by brother Alan G Segedy, sons and family, sister in law Sophie Elefritz and family as well as many other family and friends

The family would like to extend gratitude to all who were supportive of Helen throughout her life most importantly in the difficult period towards the end of her life, her classmates the girls of Our Lady of the Elms class of 1956, special friend Ruthann Nestor of New Port Richey, Florida, members of Annunciation Catholic Church, neighbors and friends, Summa Hospice, the staff and personnel at The Village of St. Edward.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 8pm on Friday, September 27, 2019 at the Anthony Funeral Home, Kucko, Anthony-Kertesz Chapel,1990 S. Main St, Akron. Funeral services will begin Saturday at 9:30 am at the funeral home and continue with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at Annunciation (Visitation of Mary) Catholic Church, 55 Broad St, Akron, Ohio 44305 at 10:00 am on Saturday, September 28, 2019. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. In remembrance of Helen please plant a flower and say a prayer for Helen. Family encourages any donations or memorials to be made to Summa Hospice or The Village of St Edward.
