Fred M. Fister III, 92 of Akron, Passed September 22, 2022 at home surrounded by his loving family.
He was born in Louisville, KY to the late Fred M. Fister Jr. and Willa Slattery Fister. Before receiving his chemical engineering degree from Georgia Tech, he was a graduate of Marist Military Academy in Atlanta, GA and a Veteran of the Air Force serving during the Korean War. After Georgia Tech he moved to Akron, OH where he worked at B.F. Goodrich until he retired as plant manager. Throughout his life he was civically engaged in Boy Scouts, Youth Sports, Special Olympics, United Way and Local Politics in Akron, OH, Wadsworth, OH, Louisville, KY (where he obtained his Masters in Business at University of Louisville and Dahlonega, GA. He was a devout member of Sacred Heart Church in Wadsworth, OH and St. Lukes in Dahlonega, GA. He enjoyed exercising, motorcycle riding, his Ramblin' Wrecks of Georgia Tech and Golf, where he shot his age at 81 years old and accomplished the rare feat of having a hole in one at Turkey Foot Golf Course and one at Chestatee Country Club in Dawsonville, GA.
Fred III was preceded in death by his lovely wife of 50+ years, Betty Gilreath Fister, daughter Beth, Brothers Stanley and Bobby and Sister Betty Fister Johnson. He is survived by his sons, Fred IV (Susan), Joseph (Sheila), Christopher and Matthew, his lovely loving daughter Susan, his brother Paul (Kay), Roswell, GA, 12 grand children, 25 great grand children and 12 great great grand children, with which he liked greeting them with "Gimme Some Suga".
A Memorial gathering will take place at Anthony Funeral Home, 1990 S. Main St in Akron on October 6, 2022 from 5-7 pm.
