It is with great sadness the Rectenwald Family announces Earl E. Rectenwald, Jr. of Coventry passed away May 28, 2021, at the age of 82. He was born in Charleston WV to Mary Painter and Earl E. Rectenwald, Sr.
Earl brought much joy and laughter to all who crossed paths with him. He will be deeply missed. He did not talk about his faith - he lived it daily in his example of love for his fellow man.
Throughout his life, Earl made a huge impact on the lives of many. It wasn't uncommon to find a stranger at our table or to see him empty his wallet of the last few dollars to someone in need.
Earl was always active. He loved running, fishing, hunting and biking. He was proud to have served in the US Army during the Vietnam War and was a member of American Legion Garfield Post 566.
Earl retired from Buchtel High School as Head Custodian, but was also well known as a listening ear to countless students. He was active in his home parishes of St. Francis de Sales and Queen of Heaven Catholic Churches, served as a Eucharistic Minister and Lector and was a member of the Queen of Heaven Holy Name Society.
In 1963 Earl met his sweetheart Rosemary Hodson and they married in 1965. Together they raised a family of 3 children. While nobody is perfect, Earl was perfect to us.
Earl leaves his sweetheart of almost 56 years, Rosemary and together their legacy which includes children Ed (Laura) Rectenwald, Dianna (Jared) Street, Joe (Misty) Rectenwald and foster daughter Sonya Lopagia. He was Popie to Olivia Rectenwald, Oliver Street, Breanna, Zachary, Alexis, Adrianna, Nicholas, Benjamin, Savanna and Jayden Rectenwald, Kelsey, Cheyenne and Erroll Isaiah II and two great grandchildren Kevin and Jasper. He also leaves to cherish his memory, sisters Angie Barone, Mary Jane Briggs, Julie (Russell) Staiger; brother John (Sandy) Painter; in laws Bill (Joan) Hodson, Mary Joan (Jerome, deceased) Hodson, Mary (Robert, deceased) Dunaway, Therese Hodson and Lewis Hodson; many nieces, nephews and lifelong friends John (Janice) More and John (Diane) Rummel.
