William (Bill) Leo Moinette Jr, 93, passed away peacefully at home, Saturday, October 11, 2025.
Bill was born in 1932 in Akron, OH, to parents William Sr and Helen Moinette. He had a deep love for Cecelia, his wife of 67 years, and was an extremely devoted family man. He stood steadfast in his faith and belief in God, was dedicated to educating others and was a staunch believer in hard work. He was a long-time member of St Paul's (Akron) Catholic Church and later in life, a member of St Anne's (Rittman) and St Andrew's (Norton) Catholic Church.
His professional career included Durable Refrigeration, Schlegel Refrigeration, Spohn Corp (1960-1972), Air Enterprises (1972-1985), and Lero, Rollence & Moinette Inc, an engineering firm, where he became a partner in 1985 and where he worked until his retirement in 1997. He was a graduate of St. Mary HS in 1950, and joined the US Navy Air Reserve that same year, where he served as a 3/C electronic tech with VPFBSRON 655. He received his BS in Mechanical Engineering in 1972 from The University of Akron. He then continued his education, earning his Professional Engineers License. For years he taught RSES Adult Vocational school, and also taught Construction Engineering at The University of Akron. He was a 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus Monsignor O'Keefe Assembly, and a 3rd Degree member of the Knights of Columbus Glenmount Council #3410. Bill enjoyed being a Lector, Eucharistic Minister, Server, and Greeter for his beloved Church. Upon retiring, he became a bee-keeper, a bee-inspector for Medina County, along with running his own honey business and continuing to garden and maintain his orchard. Bill was an avid woodworker and enjoyed tinkering in his workshop. He loved playing cards with family and friends, and he spent many weekends camping and canoeing with his family.
He was preceded in death by his wife Cecelia, parents, step-dad Charles McHenry, daughter Marie Moinette Lucas, brothers Edward & Donald, sister Rita Schwaberow. He is survived by children Janet (Stephen) Abbate of Sharon Center, Renee (Tim) of Akron, Charles (Tina) of Spokane, WA; grandchildren, Trevor (Hanna) Eskew, Ryan (Kelsey) Eskew, Cassandra (Patrick) Hebauf, Steven (Haley) Abbate, and Nathan Moinette; great-grandchildren Colton, Summer, Amelia, Tanner, and Sophie; brother Dave of Oklahoma, and brother-in-law Jack Schwaberow, of Clinton SC, as well as, many loving cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
A deepfelt thanks goes out to the staff of Affinity Hospice and Visiting Angels of Medina County for the compassionate care given to BillThe family will receive friends on Friday, October 17, 5-7 pm, at the Anthony Funeral Home - Akron Chapel, 1990 S. Main St. in Akron. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Fr. Steve Moran on Saturday, October 18, 10 am at St. Paul Catholic Church 1580 Brown St. in Akron. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in Akron. In lieu of flowers, please consider a contribution in Bill's memory to St. Paul Catholic Church or St. Mary Church in Wooster.
