Virginia 'Ginger' A. Dewey, 78, passed away peacefully on August 18, 2025 after a lengthy illness.
Ginger was born in Akron on March 15, 1947 to the late Francis M. Swesey, II & Lillian (Swesey) Hulmes and attended South High School. Ginger worked her way through school while raising five kids and earned both her Bachelor's and Master's Degrees in education from the University of Akron. She was a special education teacher for Akron Public Schools, mostly at Glover Elementary, for 22 years. Ginger was a talented artist and loved her Huskies. She loved her trips to Cape Hatteras.
In addition to her parents, Ginger was preceded in death by her son Leslie Dewey, Jr.; grandchildren Leslie Dewey, III and Tiffany Robertson. She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Leslie 'Butch', Sr.; children Virginia Kreiger, Joseph Dewey, Jeremy Dewey, Christopher Swesey & Stacey Duda; 11grandchildren & 9 great-grandchildren; her sister Sherry (Ron) Schramm & brother Francis M. Swesey, III, along with numerous nieces & nephews.
A funeral service will take place on Saturday, August 23, 12 pm, with the family receiving friends for one hour prior, at the Anthony Funeral Home - GREEN Chapel, 4178 Massillon Rd. in Green. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in Akron.
