Vernon "Butch" Shahan Jr., 80, passed away July 25, 2025 after a long battle with Parkinson's. He is finally at peace with his Father in Heaven.
Butch was born October 3, 1944 in Baltimore, Maryland to Vernon Sr. and Mary Shahan nee Painter and raised in St. George, WV. He graduated from Parsons High School. Butch then moved to Akron, OH in 1963. He was a weld tester for Babcock and Wilcox in Barberton and took great pride in working on military submarines. Butch retired from B&W after 37 years of service. He loved taking care of his yard and making it beautiful. Butch was an avid fruit lover, an Elvis enthusiast, and a huge football fan. When he moved to the Inn, located up the street from the Football Hall of Fame, he knew he was home. Of everything in his life, Butch was most proud of his family.
In addition to his parents, Butch was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 52 years, Sally, his sister Yvonne Minear, and his great-grandchild Charles Cyrus Hughes. He is survived by his daughters Tracey (Bill) McCrea, Kimberly (Jim) Cole, Jaclyn (Stan) Darrah; 8 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; many cousins, friends, neighbors, former coworkers and fellow church ushers.
Calling hours will be held Friday, August 1 at Anthony Funeral Home - Green Chapel, 4178 Massillon Road in Green (corner of Massillon and Steese Roads, entrance off Steese), from 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM, with a service at 1:00 PM. Interment at Woods Cemetery.
