Van Pum Chou Chan was born on July 16,1942, and passed away peacefully away at home on December 12, 2025 in Akron, Ohio.
She was born in Battambang, Cambodia, in the village of Maklur the youngest of nine children. She was married to her beloved husband, Noy Chou Chan, who preceded her in death in 2022.
At the age of 38, she and her family endured great hardship and were forced to flee their homeland to escape the war in Cambodia. Immigrating to the United States in January of 1980, a beginning to a new chapter in Akron, Ohio.
Through strength, courage, and determination, she built a new life far from the place she first called home.
In 1985, she moved to Long Beach, California. Living among a large and close-knit Cambodian community brought her comfort and joy, and the simple pleasures of everyday life.
In 2000, she moved back to Ohio where she spent the remainder of her life surrounded by loved ones.
She was a devoted mother to six children, a grandmother of twenty grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.
Her story is one of survival, sacrifice, perseverance and an enduring love that will live on through all who knew her.
Funeral service will begin at 1:30 PM on Saturday, December 20th at Anthony Funeral Home - Akron Chapel, located at 1990 S. Main St. in Akron.
