Thomas B. Plazo, 94, went home to be with the Lord on September 30, 2026.
Tom was born in Akron on December 21, 1931 to the late Sam and Josephine (Connolly) Plazo and attended Garfield High School before joining the US Air Force at 16 years old. He retired from the Firestone Tire & Rubber Co. after 30 years. He was a faithful member of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, where he attended daily mass for many years. Along with his wife Marilyn, Tom was a longtime volunteer at Akron Children's Hospital. Tom loved golfing at Firestone Country Club and was an avid fan of the Browns, Guardians and the Buckeyes. He was a great musician and played the piano and the clarinet. He enjoyed traveling, especially to Hilton Head with his wife and family. Most of all, Tom enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
In addition to his parents, Tom was preceded in death by his wife Marilyn; sibling Catherine Hager, Mary Factor, Sam Plazo, Rita Green, Eileen Jackson, & Paul Plazo. He is survived by his daughter Anita (Tony) Dilucente; grandchild Ali Nowac, along with a host of beloved nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and the Wolf, Dilucente, and Churchman families.
The family would like to extend their deepest thanks to Terry & Theresa Michaels, his First Light caregivers, especially Tracey, the Acute Palliative Care at Summa, and Western Reserve Hospice Care for the compassionate care given to Tom.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday October 9, 2026, 11 am, with the family receiving friends for one hour prior at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church 4019 Manchester Road
Akron, OH 44319. A private interment will take place at Holy Cross cemetery in Akron.
