Obituary

Thomas Joseph Maximovich joined the angels in heaven Saturday,

August 25th leaving his son and daughter by his side. He was born December 25th, 1939 to Michael and Josephine Maximovich, the 11th of 12 children, at St. Thomas Hospital. He graduated from St. Mary's High School where he excelled not only in academics, but was an accomplished athlete. He was president of student council and Sodality, and was selected for the Manhood award.

Tom made All-City Football, All-Diocese Basketball, and was inducted into the St.Vincent-St. Mary Hall of Fame in 2012.

With a football scholarship, he attended John Carroll University, then Borromeo Seminary, and finishing with his Masters in counseling at the University of Akron. He was a dedicated and gifted teacher in the Akron Public School system for 47 years, and supplemented 35 summers as a contractor. He taught history, government, Latin, coached the chess team, and tutored for 10 years. Tom was commonly referred to as Mr. Max and influenced over 10,000 students before retiring at the age of 70.

Tom was the president of The Holy Name Society for several years where he successfully coordinated 12 reverse raffles to raise money for St. Mary's Catholic Church and school. He enjoyed family and friends, gardening, cooking, canning, reading, music, and taking long drives with the love of his life and a good cup of coffee. He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. Tom was a

generous and loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He loved telling jokes and never forgot a punchline.

We are going to miss his beautiful smile and contagious laugh.

Special thanks to Drs. Mike and Matt Chandler, Agarwal, Bittenbender, Domdera, Nguyen, Ivan, and Politis, as well as Jeremy, Stephanie and Diane.

Tom is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Marilyn; his children Kathleen (Steve) Phillips, Tim (Maria) Maximovich, Colleen (Michael) Madonia; his grandchildren Debbie, Richard, Christopher, Paul, and Noah; and great-grandchild Deairres.

Family and friends will be received Wednesday, August 29th, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Dunn-Quigley Funeral Home at 811 Grant St. in Akron. A Mass in celebration of his life will be held at St. Bernard Catholic Church, Thursday, August 30th, at 10 a.m. at 44 University Ave. in Akron. Interment will take place following the Mass at Holy Cross Cemetery at 100 E. Waterloo Rd. in Akron.

Blessed be the name of the Lord. (Psalm 113:2)
