Thomas Bernard Hammer

Thomas Bernard Hammer, 91, passed away on August 8, 2026.
Tom was born in Wadsworth on October 20, 1934 to the late Fred & Mildred Hammer and was a 1952 graduate of Wadsworth High School. Tom earned his Masters in Eduation from Kent State University. He served his country in the US Army between the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War. He was a math teacher at Green High School and retired from the Summit County Board of Education. Tom was a faithful member of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church. He attended daily mass and facilitated a bible study for many years. Tom was an avid fisherman, enjoyed gambling and playing cards, and carpentry & construction work.
In addition to his parents, Tom was preceded in death by his wife Agnes (nee Kramer); brothers Richard, Art, Ralph & Larry and his sister Jean Robbins. He is survived by his loving partner Janice Wagner; children Mary Grable, Joseph, Theresa (Philip) Gibbs, Michael (Tammar), Kathy (Keith) Hodkinson, along with 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; siblings Donna Lee Pasho & James (Clair) Hammer; sister-in-law Jennifer Hammer.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, August 12, from 4-7 pm at the Anthony Funeral Home - Akron Chapel, 1990 S. Main St. in Akron. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, August 13, 10:00 am, at St. Francis de Sales 4019 Manchester Rd. in Portage Lakes. Burial with full miltary honors will will follow at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery.
