Thomas J. Hagerman

October 17, 1923 — June 24, 2015

Thomas J. Hagerman, Sr. fell asleep in the Lord on Wednesday, June 24, 2015.
He was born in Gallup, Kentucky on October 17, 1923. He was a life member of VFW 8975 and American Legion 566. He served in the U.S. Navy in the South Pacific during World War II and also the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the Ohio Edison Men's Club and retired from Ohio Edison in 1984 where he was the Building and Grounds Department working foreman with 40 years of service. He also served as president, vice-president and secretary of Local 126 UWUA. He loved fishing, boating, bowling, softball, gardening, the Indians, Browns, Cavs, Ohio State Football and the University of Kentucky Basketball. He was a member of St. Elia the Prophet Orthodox Church.
Thomas was preceded in death by his parents, Lena and Harvey Hagerman; wife, Violet Hagerman; sons, Thomas J. Hagerman, Jr. and John and George Terhesh; brothers, Jerome Hagerman and Stanley Erwin; sister, Euna Hupp; and nephew, John Hupp. He is survived by daughters, Linda (Ralph) DiGiulio, Euna (Arthur) Hetrick and Pamela (Walter) Pirogowicz; cousins in Kentucky, William "Mug" (Ilene) and Shelley (Geri) Hardin, Lois (Darrell) Horn and Betty (Ed) Monheimer; grandchildren, Nicole and Nick Hetrick, Doc and Zack Daugherty, Bruce Hagerman, George (Cindy) Terhesh and Julie (Ed) Wilson; great-grandchildren, Liam Daugherty, Greg and Alex Terhesh and Ryan and Nick Wilson; daughters-in-law, Ruth Hagerman and Judy Terhesh; and nephew, John (Sandy) Erwin.
Funeral service will be held Wednesday, 9:30 a.m. at the Anthony Funeral Home Kucko-Anthony-Kertesz Chapel, 1990 S. Main St. Akron, Ohio 44301. Fr. Don Freude officiating. Interment at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday, 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home where a Parastas service will be held at 7:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Elia the Prophet Orthodox Church or to Palliative Care at Akron City (Summa) Hospital.
