Obituary

Thomas E. Dunn, Sr., born on January 2, 1926, passed away the evening of November 5th surrounded by his loving family. Born in Columbus, Ohio, he lived in Akron and graduated from St. Mary's High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corp and served in World War II in the Pacific Theater. He was a flame thrower in the First Marine Division and participated in the battle of Pelelieu and Okinawa, where he was wounded and awarded the Purple Heart. For almost twenty years he was the Director of the St. Vincent DePaul Stores in the Akron area, and later was the manager of the ambulance business at Dunn-Quigley Ciriello Funeral Homes.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Irene, and five children, Thomas, Jr. (Kim) of Stow, Dianne (Charles) Heidrick of Salisbury, North Carolina, Kevin (Denise) of Cuyahoga Falls, Christopher (Barbara) of Middlefield, Ohio and William (Cheryl) of Duncan, South Carolina, seven grandchildren, Marie Dunn Harris, Joseph Dunn, Adam Heidrick, Emily Ersek, Sean, Connor and Madeline Dunn, and three great grandchildren. He was also survived by brother, Patrick, sisters, Mary Caston, and Jean (Roger) Casseday, as well as many nieces and nephews. Tom was preceded in death by his grandson, Keegan Dunn, his parents, Joseph and Charlotte Dunn, brothers, John and Joseph, and sisters, Betty Dunn and Rita Gabelman.
He was a charter member of St. Eugene's Parish, other memberships include the VFW, the China Marines, and he was Past President of the Summit Sportsman's Association. Tom enjoyed spending time fishing with family and friends.
Calling hours will be TODAY from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Dunn-Quigley Stow Chapel (3333 Kent Rd. at Rt.91). Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday at 12 NOON (PLEASE NOTE TIME) at St. Eugene's Catholic Church (1821 Munroe Falls Ave, Cuyahoga Falls). Interment with military honors will follow at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery. In Tom's memory please make donations to the Wounded Warrior Fund.
