Tom Antal Sr, 73, died Monday, January 24, 2022 due to heart failure.
He is survived by his wife of 21 years, Janet; children Tom (Coni Krim) Antal, Melissa Antal (Patrick Palmer), Craig (Dr. Laurie) Wagner, & Cory Wagner (Amy Calliari); grandchildren Alexandra & Cameron; brothers Dan (Hannelore Jackson Gard), George (Cathy), Mike, Paul (Doris) and his honorary brother, cousin Joey; brother and sister-in-law James & Louise Greene; and many cousins, nieces and nephews whom he loved. He was preceded in death by his parents Dan & Mary; mother and father-in-law Jeanette & James Greene Sr.
Tom was born in Barberton, Ohio and attended school at St. Augustine and graduated from Barberton High School in 1966. He married early in life and had two kids, Tom Jr. and Melissa. Later in life, he reunited with a special girl, Janet Wagner (nee Greene), who he had taken to the senior prom.
Tom loved muscle cars (Chevys, of course). He may have done some street-racing back in the day and he had a "win-or-break" philosophy. He won against a lot of cars that were faster, but he also got good at replacing transmissions and rear ends in the process. He also loved watching NASCAR every week, especially his favorite driver, Dale Earnhardt Sr.
Tom was an avid sportsman who loved to hunt and fish with his dad, brothers, cousins, friends and his son, Tommy. Tom also enjoying playing cards and board games with friends and family. Let's just say his win percentage was high! Tom was good with his hands and could fix almost anything. He worked for many years at B&W Construction company in Copley, OH. Tom liked taking long drives with Janet and finding a great restaurant to eat at. He was also fond of taking their dog, Abby Rose, out for a ride and looking for deer!
Tom's struggles with his health started when he had a heart attack at the age of 42. Even through many procedures, trips to the hospital and just getting older, he continued to fight and survive for many years more than most of us thought he could. Even until his final days, he continued to fight until his heart had given out. As if his heart was a 327 Chevy, his engine had been rebuilt many times and the cylinder walls had been bored out to their limit. In his last minutes, he smiled when talking with his son about old cars and hot rods.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30AM on Saturday, January 29 at Queen of Heaven Catholic Church, 1800 Steese Road in Green, where the family will receive friends beginning at 9:30AM. Private interment will be at Henry Warstler Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made the Aultman Hospital MICU.
