With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Theodore (Ted/Teddy) G. Kozma, a devoted father, enthusiastic grandfather, cherished brother, and incredible friend. He left this world on March 4, 2025, surrounded by his family after a resilient battle with complicated health conditions.
Ted was born in Akron, Ohio, on August 29, 1950, to Nicholas and Patricia (Breen) Kozma. He graduated from Firestone High School and went on to get his degree from the University of Akron. Ted worked as a small business banker at First Merit for more than 39 years, dedicated to his customers and making sure they were set up for success. After retirement, Ted spent his time attending church daily, helping his kids, taking adventures with his grandkids, bike riding, vacationing on the beach, and just making his way around Cuyahoga Falls for his daily routine - greeting and enjoying the company of all the familiar faces he would regularly encounter. Like his father, he believed in giving back to the community and was an active volunteer with organizations like the Red Cross and Akron Children's Hospital. His giving and selfless nature went beyond his earthly life, even donating his organs to Lifebanc.
His greatest joy in life was spending time with his family, his 4 kids and 4 grandkids. Especially during summer trips to the beach or state parks and carrying on cherished Kozma holiday traditions. As a devoted father of four, he never missed a game, event, or special occasion, always showing up with unwavering love and support. He planned family adventures, made sure birthdays were celebrated with dessert "sponsored by Dad," and kept everyone up to date on Cleveland sports, politics, and the Ohio weather. When he wasn't with family, he enjoyed time with friends, especially his Firestone Class reunion group, always valuing the connections and memories they shared. Ted was also an incredible brother to Tom, Mike and Nick, sharing a lifetime of memories, laughter and love.
A man with a jovial spirit, a big sense of humor, and a twinkle in his eye, Ted was known for his compassionate demeanor, outspoken opinions, and an unforgettable laugh. The absolute greatest sports fan around - iconically known for his sideline coaching and loud cheering. His presence in our lives was a gift, and his legacy of kindness, generosity, and unwavering love will live on through all the wonderful memories so many have of him. His laughter may no longer fill the room, but his spirit will echo in our hearts forever.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and is survived by his brothers, Nick (Bev), Mike (Sue), and Tom (Teresa); 4 children and in-laws, Amanda Adey (Nate), Austin, Amy Bissell (Zac), and Abby Kozma; and 4 grandchildren, Lyndee, Maverick, Owen and Graham.
The family will receive friends on Friday, March 14, from 4-7 pm at the Anthony Funeral Home - FALLS Chapel 247 Stow Ave. in Cuyahoga Falls (at Third St., one block north of Portage Trail). A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, March 15, 10 am at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church 1905 Portage Trail in Cuyahoga Falls.
