Sylvia Ann Vance

Sylvia Ann Vance passed away peacefully on October 1, 2023 at St. Luke's Lutheran Community Care Facility in Portage Lakes.
Born in Akron, Ohio on January 9, 1939 to Frank and Mary (Kalo) Vance, Sylvia was raised on Herberich Avenue in South Akron along with her seven siblings. She graduated from Garfield High School spending her early years in Akron and working at Ohio Edison/First Energy. Sylvia relocated to Texas in the early 1970's and experienced living in big cities around the state. For several years, she also worked as an Executive Assistant at Texas Oil Co. In Texas, she pursued her passion for design-obtaining formal certification in interior design (CID). Demonstrating a fashion flair and skills as a designer-consultant, she was employed by a variety of companies on commercial and residential projects mainly in the Dallas area. Always ready for a fun party, Sylvia loved ethnic food, church picnics, wine, music and dancing. She was keen on going to the movies, watching legendary actors as well as the current generation in film. Antiques, art and collectibles were a favorite source of personal joy, especially Franco-Italian artwork. In 2005, Sylvia relocated back to Akron to be near her family.
She's preceded in death by elder siblings, Eve Metelsky, Mary Marlowe and Frank Vance, Jr. Surviving brothers, George (Marty) Vance and John (Pat) Vance, reside in Akron. Surviving sisters are Victoria Marek of Uniontown, OH and Debbie (Bijan) Esfandiary of WA State; sister-in-law, Rosemary Vance of Uniontown, OH. Additionally, Sylvia leaves an uncle, Thomas Kalo of Lorain, OH plus many nephews, nieces, cousins and dear friends.
In honoring Sylvia's wishes, no services will be held. Please hold the Vance family in your prayers. The family extends heartfelt thanks to all the professional medical staff and caregivers at St. Luke's, Inn at Whitewood in N. Canton as well as the Crossroads Hospice Team who provided their compassion, care and comfort over the past months. (Anthony, Akron. 330-724-1281)
