Stephen James Ross

Steve Ross, 88, passed away March 18, 2017. Steve was born in Akron on October 10, 1928, served his country in the US Army prior to the Korean Conflict, and retired as a tire builder from the Firestone Tire & Rubber Co. with over 35 years of service. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Firestone Park. Steve was a lifetime member of Firestone VFW Post 3383, and the German-American Club. He was an avid camper and euchre player. Steve is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Mildred; his daughters Linda (Rick) Thoerig & Debra (Alan) Weiland; grandchildren Kelly, Carrie, Douglas, Hilary, & Ross; great-grandchildren Steven, Kamden, Kell'n, Ella, Grant, & Mya; sisters Olga Vanchoff & George (Judy) Ross. A funeral service will take place at St. John Lutheran Church 550 E Wilbeth Rd, Akron, OH 44301 on Monday, March 27, at 12:00 pm, where the family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service. Interment with full military honors will follow at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman. In lieu of flowers, please make memorial contributions to St. John Lutheran Church.
