Stefania (Masluk) Woloschyn

May 15, 1925 — January 21, 2023

Stefania Woloschyn, 97, passed away Saturday, January 21, 2023.
Stefania Woloschyn died as she lived: a fighter, having survived bouts with literal Nazis, poverty, and Covid-19.
She was born on May 15,1925 in Zarudechko, Ukraine to Maria and Ivan Masluk. At age 17, Nazi soldiers invaded her town and took her by force to Germany to work as a laborer on a farm. She never saw her family again. After several difficult years, she was liberated by the Americans and ended up in a refugee camp where she met her love and future husband, Stefan Woloschyn. Stefania and Stefan were married on February 5, 1946 and had two sons, Eugene (born in Germany and Bohdan (born after they were able to escape Europe for Venezuela). After many years of trying to enter the United States, they were finally able to come to the land of the free in 1955, starting in St. Joseph, Missouri before ending up in Akron, Ohio.
They were very active in the Ukrainian-American community in Akron and enjoyed years of polka dancing and summer camps. Stefania also loved card games and often played hours of Skip-Bo and Uno with family and friends.
Stefania worked as a baker for the Akron City Women's Club until retirement and was always whipping up something in her kitchen much to the delight of her guests.
Most precious in her life were her three men: her husband and her two sons.
She is preceded in death by her husband and entire family in Ukraine.
She is survived by her sons: Bohdan (Beckie) Woloschyn of Wooster, Ohio and Eugene (Irene) Voloshin of Virginia Beach, Virginia. She is also survived by four grandchildren: Jennifer (Alan), Greg, Michael, and Anya as well as two great-grandchildren: Grayson and Eloise.
