Rose (Chiofolo) Barkey

February 16, 1932 — November 18, 2021

Rose Marilyn Chiofolo Barkey, age 89 of Rogersville, Alabama, passed away November 18, 2021.

Rose was the first-born child of the late Joseph and Vera (Kuhn) Chiofolo, born in her Grandmother Chiofolo's home in Greensburg, Ohio, on February 16, 1932, delivered by her grandmother, who was a midwife. Rose grew up in North Canton, graduating from North Canton High in 1950. She entered the Akron School of Nursing and graduated in 1953 as a Registered Nurse. Rose married the love of her life, Jacob O. (Fritz) on June 27, 1953.

Rose began her 44-year career in Akron at Akron City Hospital and Timken Mercy in Canton, moving to Western New York, working at Mercy Hospital in Buffalo and retiring from Springhill Regional Hospital in Springhill, Florida in 1997. She spent the majority of her career in the Intensive Care Unit. Along with all her duties as a nurse, Rose would pray for and with her patients and their families, as she believed this was the greatest part of being a faithful and loyal servant to her Lord.

She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Fritz, of 44 years, who went home to be with the Lord on his 71st birthday, December 6, 1997.

She leaves behind her loving children Eric (Mary) of Colden, New York, Karl (Rebecca) of Uniontown, Ohio, Kristina (Timothy) Cruse of Rogersville, Alabama and Karen (Gregory) Antonik of Hanover, Pennsylvania; 4 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; siblings, Anthony Chiofolo of Akron and Adelyn McDonald of North Canton; and nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends who dearly loved her. She gave us all many cherished memories that will be held in our hearts forever.

The family would like to thank Amedisys Hospice of Florence, AL; most especially her nurses, Anna and Amy, the Nurse Manager, Beth and Mom's sweet gentle bath aide, Vashni.

Special thank you to Abbot Cletus Maegher, OSB and Deacon Steve Kirkpatrick from St. Michael Catholic Church in Florance, AL for their prayers and spiritual support.
