Roberta Marie (Daley) Butler

May 6, 1939 — September 19, 2023

Roberta Marie Butler of Akron Ohio, age 84, passed away on September 19th, 2023, surrounded by family.

Roberta was born on May 6, 1939, to parents Salvatore (Samuel) and Anna Turturici Daley (Sunseri). She met her husband Robert Smith Butler at the age of 16 and was swept off her feet from there. Rebelling from her Italian heritage, they ran away to wed, and their love story was one movies could be made of.

She was a mother to five children, giving the honor to adopt five additional children after a family accident brought them into her life. She had a passion for motherhood. She created a comfortable home and used her love for cooking and homemaking in her daily life.

After many years of homemaking, Roberta was endowed with the role of primary caretaker to her mother and her in-laws as they aged. It was with these experiences that she knew she was a caregiver at heart. She would go on to graduate with a degree in nursing and fulfill her lifelong dream of becoming an LPN. After being confronted with news no spouse ever wants to face the care for her beloved husband Robert of 43 years and his battle with lung cancer, she experienced the role of end-of-life caretaking. She would go on to lose her beloved spouse to his battle. She took this compassion and dedication to end of life and elderly care to a local nursing home in North Carolina where she would care for countless beloved patients facing similar circumstances.

Nursing was her calling and before she passed, she was given the utmost honor with a nursing pinning ceremony. The smile that brought her was like no other her family has experienced, and we want to thank all those involved at hospice for ensuring this final honor was bestowed. The family would also like to thank all those at the hospice center for the loving care and compassion given back to Roberta at the end of her life, that she showed to so many in her career. Words cannot describe our gratitude.

Roberta faced many difficulties in her life, the devastating loss of her eldest son, caretaking and cancer battles of her daughters, as well as her own fierce battle with breast cancer. However, even with adversity she was an incredible woman who looked at life as a mother always does, always taking care of those around her. She helped in raising her two youngest granddaughters throughout their childhood. She developed beloved friendships and watched over countless individuals at Villa at Marian Park where she resided for over 10 years. She enjoyed playing card games with her family and friends. She always was the one to get that Ace high. She would watch Centennial, her favorite show on repeat, and she always claimed the Notebook to be her favorite movie. She was a true Italian with her love of cooking, but don't trust a recipe she wrote because a "pinch of this" and a "dash of that" can't be taught or written.

Roberta was preceded in death by countless loved ones: her spouse Robert Butler, son Robert (Bobby) Butler, daughter Theresa (Butler) Zeigler and youngest daughter Pamela (Butler) Miller, as well as her parents, siblings and many other family members and friends.

She is survived by her daughter Patricia (Butler) Lee (Thomas Lee), daughter Debra (Butler) McCulty (James McCulty), grandson Rodney Wade (Brandi Wade) and great grandchild Marshal Wade, granddaughter Crystal (Wade) Ruggiero (Robert Ruggiero) and great grandchildren Destiny and Breanna Ruggiero, granddaughter Samantha (Lee) Milanoski (Andrew Milanoski) and great grandchildren George and Molly Milanoski, granddaughter Sarah Wade and great grandchildren Jamale and Javon Christian, granddaughter Miranda Dobbins (Patrick Smith), granddaughter Emily (Dobbins) Rader (Dez Rader), great grandson Ford Rader and son-in-law Jeffrey Zeigler

"Roberta, Momma, Grandma, Nana, go be free. Dance with Papa and continue your love story. Please say hello to all those we lost. We know you will be here to care for us when it's our time, but until we meet again, we love and miss you dearly."
