We are sad to inform you that our dear mother, Rita Mae McFadden, has passed away at the age of 94.
She was born in May 1931 during the Great Depression and witnessed a lot of history during her long life. She learned to drive at age 16 on a Model T car owned by her two older brothers who predeceased her, Chester (wife Patricia) and Leonard (wife Francis). Rita was married for 51 years to her beloved husband, Edward McFadden, who died in 2005 and who has been greatly missed. Rita loved her career teaching young children, as well as her passions for gardening, making puzzles, congregating with and cooking for her family, following current events, laughing loudly, and causing mischief.
In addition to her two sisters-in-law, Rita is survived by her three children, Joy Varley (husband Greg), Lisa Wood, and Donald (wife Deseri); by ten grandchildren, Christopher (wife Annie), Brandon (wife Brandy), Andrea (husband Jake), Samuel, Rachel, Abigail, Denver (partner Rose), Andrew (wife Karen), Nathaniel, and Elizabeth (husband James); by five great-grandchildren, Silas, Cora, Daniel, McKenna, and Beau; and by many nephews, nieces, and cousins. Rita was a source of wonder and fun and she will be sorely missed.
In lieu of flowers, charitable donations in Rita's name may be made to your local chapter of Habitat for Humanity, one of Rita's favorite charities.
