Richard Stephen Novitsky, 94, passed away March 11, 2025.
Richard was born October 4, 1930 to Stephen and Theresa Novitsky nee Adamik in Cleveland. He was a 1948 graduate of St. Mary High School. Richard graduated from Notre Dame Cum Laude with a degree in Chemical Engineering. He married his late wife Mary Lou on April 21, 1956 and they had 5 children together who they raised in Akron. Richard worked for General Tire for 35 years. In his retirement, Richard loved his routine and spending time with his family. He lived to socialize with those around him.
He was a lifelong and faithful member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church where he served as a lector and a member of the choir. Richard was proud to be very involved in his parish. He was also a member of the Hibernian Club and a veteran of the Army.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved wife Mary Lou Novitsky nee Gardner. He is survived by his sons Thomas (Laurie), Richard G. (Kathy) and Stephen; daughters Marianne Spiros and Suzanne (John) Nicholas; sisters Mary Jane and Barbara Novitsky; grandchildren Gabrielle (Michael) Redovian, Cameren (Kaitlin) Spiros, Aaron Nicholas, Evan (Jordan) Nicholas, Aubree (Tyler) Wright, Caroline (Tyler) Coffman, Myles Novitsky, Matthew and Nicholas Benca, Chelsea Benca-Bachman (Michael); great grandchildren Gavin and Adalynn Redovian, Callum Spiros, and Henry Bachman; dear family friend and neighbor Bill Sudduth.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, March 21 at 10:00 am at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 2101 17th St. SW, Akron OH 44314. It will be followed by a memorial luncheon at the Anthony Funeral Home Community Room, 1990 S. Main St. Akron OH 44301 and burial at 2:15 pm at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Ritman. The family will receive friends Thursday, March 20 from 5 to 8 pm at the Anthony Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make memorial donations to Immaculate Conception Church.
