IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Richard A.
Mckee
September 8, 1949 – November 29, 2024
Richard A. McKee, age 75, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by loved ones on November 29, 2024, after a short illness. Born in Akron, Ohio, Richard, better known as Dick or Hoss, lived a full and meaningful life marked by dedicated support of his family and sharing his unique blend of spirit, humor, and storytelling with all he met--first as a resident of Cuyahoga Falls and Akron, then as a retiree in Salesville, Ohio.
Dick had many experiences and a zest for living that he loved to share with those close to him. He was a proud Vietnam veteran, serving his country as a member of the U.S. Navy, and instilling lessons on duty and honor in his children and grandchildren. Dick had a 30-year career at Waste Management where he was known as the "Big Dog", respected by fellow crew members and well-liked by those he served. He loved nothing more than fishing with family and friends, and also enjoyed a night of dancing, a "shot and a beer" while shooting pool, and Oreo cookies by the pound. And, while he may have been known to say, "don't talk to me before I have my coffee," the post-coffee Dick could be counted on to help family, friends, church, and neighbors.
A devoted husband, father, and grandfather, Dick is survived by his beloved wife of 30 years, Patricia McKee, brother Tim McKee (wife Deb), daughter Tricia Cosgrove (fiancée Gary Gariepy), sons Brian Cosgrove (wife Shana), Rick McKee, and Jeff McKee, grandchildren Trey Brock (wife Jenna), Gabe Hardman, Kaylee McKee, Brendan McKee, Jack McKee, William Cosgrove, and Rose Cosgrove, daughter in law Jennifer Geiger, and "adopted family" members Heather Roe, Brittany Jones, and Kevin Brogan and families, plus many cousins, extended family members, and friends. Dick cherished whatever time he spent with those close to him, creating lasting memories that will forever remain in their hearts.
Dick's life will be commemorated through a series of gatherings that reflect the love and respect he inspired in those who knew him. Family and friends will have the opportunity to pay their respects during a public viewing in the Dunn-Quigley Funeral Home at 811 Grant St. Akron on December 5, 2024, beginning at 4:00 PM till 7:00 PM.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held in the Blessed Trinity Catholic Church on December 6, 2024, at 10:00 AM, a fitting tribute to a man of faith. Following the Mass, Dick will be laid to rest at Holy Cross Cemetery in Akron, with burial services beginning at 11:30 AM.
His spirit will live on in the hearts of those he leaves behind, and he will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. In these moments of sorrow, we remember Dick for his unwavering love, his good nature, and the joyful laughter he brought into our lives. May he rest in peace.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents Addison and Louise McKee. In Honor of his mother, the family request that memorial donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
