Rev. John George Eiwen woke up in the presence of his Lord Jesus Christ on December 31, 2023.

John was born November 6,1942 in New York City to Edward and Martha Eiwen. Devoted husband of over 55 years to Patricia (Huge) Eiwen and loving father of Rebecca, Joanna, and Mark Eiwen, he is also survived by brother Richard (Lore) Eiwen, sisters Nancy (Herman) Wahlers and Carol (James) Weide as well as many nieces, nephews and their families.

God called him to be a pastor at a young age. He studied to prepare for ministry at Concordia High School and Junior College, Bronxville, New York; Concordia Senior College, Fort Wayne, and Concordia Seminary, St. Louis.

Pastor John served at Zion Lutheran Church in Akron, Ohio beginning in 1969 and continuing almost 40 years. He then ministered in retirement to several area congregations. His passion was preaching and teaching about his Savior Jesus Christ. His fervent desire was to bring praise and glory to God by leading others to know Jesus and to grow closer to their Savior in worship and prayer.

People remember him as genuine in his faith, living daily what he preached. He was known for his long and dedicated commitment to Zion and the downtown Akron community.

John is also known for his powerful voice, his laughter, and his love of music and singing. He enjoyed spending time with his family both at home and while traveling to many diverse places, experiencing the wonder of God's creation.

Visitation will be at Dunn-Quigley Funeral Home at 3333 Kent Road in Stow on Sunday January 7th from 3 to 7 pm and at Zion Lutheran Church 139 S. High St. at 10 am on Monday January 8th before the funeral service at 11 am. Pastors Keith Johnson, John Mashek, and Josh Schoon will be officiating.
