Pete Gajdos, 89, passed away February 1, 2016.
He was a first generation American born citizen and served during WWII as a POW guard both stateside and in the Pacific Islands. Pete was very proud of his service to his country. He is retired from the City of Akron Water Treatment Plant.
Pete was preceded in death by his wife of fifty years Madeline; his parents Nick & Katherine Gajdos; sisters Pauline, Mary, and Annie, as well as his brother George. He is survived by his children Kathy (Pat) Calfee, Margie (Jim) Chapman, Mary (Howie) Wenk, Mona (James Scates) Gajdos, & Jennie (Brant) Anderson; grandchildren, Elliot & Adam Calfee & Shaina Dampier, CJ & Roxanne Oswald, James Gajdos & Mariah Bailey, Madeline & Emily Anderson and Marissa & Megan Hirsch; and great-grandchildren, Ian & Irie Calfee & Maggie Dampier.
A funeral will be held Friday, 7 pm, at the Anthony Funeral Home KUCKO-ANTHONY-KERTESZ CHAPEL 1990 S. Main St. in Akron, where the family will receive friends from 5-7 pm. Burial will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery in Akron on Saturday at 10 am., where VFW Post 3383 will conduct military honors. We celebrate his life and have peace in his passing.
