Paul Edward Young, age 85, was called home to be with our Lord peacefully, on Wednesday, July 17, 2024 with family in attendance in the Village of Saint Edward in Fairlawn. Paul succumbed to Parkinson's Disease that he had been battling for the last several years.
Paul was born in Akron on August 18, 1938 to Harry and Ferne (Long) Young and was a resident of Norton, Suffield and Hartville, Ohio. He grew up in Norton and moved to Suffield in 1962. After he retired he eventually moved to Hartville. Paul attended Norton High School and Wooster College studying math and music. He was in the high school band and was in a traveling band in college. This led him to form his own band, The Paul Young Orchestra where he played the trombone for years for weddings. Paul retired as a Project Manager in the Sales/Marketing Department for General Tire & Rubber Company and retired with 37 years of service. Paul also served as the Suffield Township Clerk and Fiscal Officer. Paul was elected five consecutive terms retiring in 2008. Prior to his clerkship, he served as Chairman on the Zoning Commission. Besides serving as Suffield's fiscal officer, he was one of the charter members of the Suffield Jaycees. He was always active in the community. He also was a member of Saint Joseph's Church in Randolph.
After Paul retired his passion was golf and bowling. He was constantly practicing golf in his back yard or at a golf range, or golfing at a golf course; and in the winter it was bowling. He was very proud of his yard and keeping his two acres and sometimes the neighbor's area well-trimmed. But above all things, his family and friends were the major and most important part of his life.
He was preceded in death by his parents Harry and Ferne Young, his sister Barbara Ann Hugus, and his loving first wife of 36 years Diana Mae (Bohaychyk) Young.
He is survived by his loving second wife of 23 years Dolores May Young, his sons, Todd (Dorinda) Young, and Mark Young, and his daughter, Laura Aten; grandchildren, Brandon (Maggie) Young, Andrew (Mandy) Young, Megan Young, Tyler (Rachel) Aten and Ryan Aten. Great-grandchildren; Eliza Young, Zachary Aten, and Bennett Aten; step-children; George Laws and Kathy Hansen; step-grandson, Cole (Kayleah) Hansen and step-great granddaughter, Emilee Hansen, as well as nieces and a nephew.
His wit and gentle and loving personality will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Visitation will take place on Monday, July 29th from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 2643 Waterloo Road, Mogadore, Ohio 44260, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 1:00 p.m. with Father Kevin Bertleff officiating. Interment will follow at the St. Joseph Cemetery. Memorial donations are suggested to Saint Joseph Church.
