Paul Fickert, 87, passed away on December 15, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Paul was born in Tomaschantzi, Yugoslavia on December 6, 1937 to the late Peter & Suzanna Fickert, grew up in Deutschlandsberg, Austria and came to the US in 1956. Paul served his country as a member of the US Army and the Army Reserves. He worked for both Atlantic and Ohio Foundries as a quality control inspector. He was a parishioner of St. Paul Catholic Church, a 3rd Degree member of the Knights of Columbus, & the Firestone Park Primetimers.
In addition to his parents, Paul was preceded in death by his siblings Mary Marz, Erna Lawson, & Josef Fickert. He is survived by beloved wife of 64 years Irene; his children John (Ana) Fickert, Angie Fickert (Steve) Paterek, & David (Becky) Fickert; grandchildren Corey Fickert & Alyssa (Kenneth) Appiah; great-grandchildren Keturah & Malachi Appiah; brother Pete (Gloria) Fickert.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, December 18, from 1-3 pm & 5-7 pm at the Anthony Funeral Home - AKRON Chapel, 1990 S. Main St. in Akron. A rosary will be said on Thursday, December 19, 9:15 am at the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial, 10:00 am, at St. Paul Catholic Church, 1580 Brown St. Akron, OH 44301. Interment with full military honors will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in Akron.
