Norman Harry Green

Norman H. Green, 95, a sixty-four year resident of Fairlawn, Ohio, passed away peacefully November 15th at his home.
He was born on March 22, 1929 in Akron, Ohio to William and Helen Green. Norman spent most of his youth in Liberty, New York and then in Bellmawr Park, New Jersey. He returned to attend the University of Akron and graduate with a degree in Civil Engineering. It was there that he met his beloved wife, Mary. While at U of A, Norm was a member of the Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity (Zeta Number 513) and the Air Force ROTC program. Mary and Norm were married in January 1954 and, after a two-year tour of duty in Germany, settled in the Akron area and eventually moved to Fairlawn in 1960, where they raised six children. The majority of his career as a Professional Engineer was spent at the Burger Iron Company of Akron, where he started as a draftsman,eventually rose to President and CEO, and then concluded his fifty- eight year tenure at Burger Iron as Chairman of the Board.Norm enjoyed golf, tennis, bicycling, skiing (both snow and water), and travelling, all of which he shared with his wife and family. He was a member of St. Hilary and currently Guardian Angels parishes.
Norman was preceded in death by his parents and his wife of 59 years, Mary Elizabeth (Leyden) Green. He is survived by their six children: N. Kevin (Georgianne) Green; MaryBeth Green Maxwell; Patricia L. (Stephen) Dexter; Thomas W. (Stephanie) Green; Brian G. (Theresa) Green; Colin M. (Kathy) Green; eleven grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren.
Private services will be held later, after which Norman will take his final resting place next to Mary at Holy Cross Cemetery in Akron.
