Nancy J. Wilkerson, 65 of Newburgh, IN passed away suddenly on September 3, 2024. Nancy and Tom Rountree shared a happy and loving life together for many years. Nancy was born and raised in Peninsula, Ohio. She graduated from Woodridge High school and earned a B.A. from the University of Akron. She retired in 2014 as a regional manager of retail outlet stores for Pepperidge Farm.

Nancy is preceded in death by her parents, Bruce and Jacqueline Barker, her brothers, Bruce and Arthur (Hazel) Barker and her sister, Irene Brosch.

She is survived by Tom Rountree; sister, Deborah Barker of Michigan; brother, John Barker (Gail) of Ohio; and her aunt, Gladys Colwall of Georgia; as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews and grand nieces and grand nephews. She leaves her adoring cats Hamilton and Cleopatra.

Nancy met Tom in Coram, NY (Long Island) in a hotel bar in 2000 while both were on extended business trips. They talked and got to know each other over about a week and then Tom asked her to go to dinner, just so he did not have to eat alone again. She spent most of the dinner trying to get him to say his name as she had forgotten it. They continued to see each other over the next 18 months and when Tom was to move, he left his job to move in with Nancy. They moved out of the Long Island area in 2017 and eventually ended up in Newburgh, IN., a small community adjacent to Evansville, IN where Tom was working. Nancy asked for only 2 things when Tom was looking for a place to live. Sidewalks to walk and be able to walk to shopping. Tom found an apartment next to the Warrick Wellness trail and a Walmart about 1 mile away from the apartment. When they decided to stay in the Newburgh area, they wanted to have access to the same trail and found a builder where they could pick out the design and all of the finishes for the house. Nancy designed and picked out her dream home.

Nancy had a wonderful smile and a quiet, caring and loving nature. She was the apple of her fathers eye. She always put her heart and soul into everything she did. She loved to laugh, play cards and became a skilled computer game player and host. Her love for animals was shared by Tom and resulted in them bringing home a number of kitten rescues from shelters and even ferals over the years. She was dearly loved by her family and friends and will be sorely missed.

Friends may call from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. TUESDAY at the Dunn-Quigley Stow Chapel (3333 Kent Rd., Stow) where funeral services will take place at 12:30. Interment will follow at Northlawn Memorial Gardens.
