Matilda Ann Phelps

November 5, 1920 — March 2, 2015

Matilda "Tillie" Ann Phelps, 94, died peacefully Monday, March 2, 2015 at the Greenview Inn, where she had been a resident for the past six years.
Tillie was born on November 5, 1920 in Uniontown, PA to the late John and Barbara LeBar. She married William C. Phelps in 1944, and was a devoted wife, mother and homemaker. Tillie was deeply religious; she was a member of Queen of Heaven Catholic Church and their Ladies Prayer Society, attending weekly Eucharistic Adoration. She would also occasionally play the organ for Queen of Heaven and St. Matthew. Tillie was a wonderful, loving woman; her kind spirit will be missed by all who knew her.
In addition to her parents, Tillie was preceded in death by her eight older siblings, and son-in-law Daniel Austin. She is survived by her children William (Kathleen), Barbara (Ron) Austin, and John (Melanie); grandchildren Laura (Steve) DeBarr, Shelly Kohl, Kim (Jeff) Pruett, Danny (Juli) Austin, Andrea (Matt) Johnson & Jacen Phelps; and great-grandchildren Spencer, Cooper, Jeffrey, Joshua, Jarrod, Alex, Daniel, & Arriana.
The family is especially gratefully to the staff at the Greenview Inn; their compassionate care and devoted presence made Tillie's years there special beyond comparison.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 AM on Friday, March 6 at Queen of Heaven Catholic Church, 1800 Steese Road in Green, where the family will receive friends and relatives for one hour prior, beginning at 10AM. Interment will be at Holy Cross Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Alzheimer's Association, P.O. Box 96011, Washington, DC 20090-6011.
