MaryAnn (Mariola) Cook, 96, peacefully passed away, surrounded by her family at home, Wednesday, December 15, 2021.
MaryAnn was born July 27, 1925 to Angelo and Florence (Lawrence) Mariola in Akron and had been an area resident her entire life. She had been employed as a Legal Secretary for several firms including Buckingham, Doolittle and Burrows.
She was a member of Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church and formerly of St. Martha Catholic Church, where her parents were charter members and she attended grade school. She was a founding member of the St. Philomena Study Club, begun while in the 8th grade, meeting monthly for over 70 years. She was an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion and served on the funeral luncheon committee at Our Lady of Victory. She loved to play bridge and was in several bridge clubs and flights, along with multiple Couples Card Club groups that also go back to her youth. After Fred passed away, she volunteered and served on several boards at Akron General Hospital until the age of 91.
MaryAnn was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Fred, in 1999 and her brother, Thomas Mariola. She is survived by her children Marlene (Gary) Beckley and Fred (Arlene) Cook; grandchildren Allison Cook, Gary (Anna), Joe (Kristin), and Matthew Beckley; great grandchildren Ella, Katharine, Emily, Kolbie, Madelyn, Ryan, and Michael Beckley; brothers David and Dennis (Vicki) Mariola; and other dear relatives and cherished friends.
A Private Family Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, December 21, 2021 at 12:00 Noon at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church, 73 North Ave., Tallmadge OH 44278. You are kindly asked to wear a mask. The Mass will be livestreamed on Our Lady of Victory's Facebook page:
