Mary Agnes (née LaBruzzo) Pisano of Akron passed away peacefully early in the morning of December 18, 2025, at the age of 98.
She was a lifelong resident of Akron, born on January 30, 1927, to Catherine (née Greco) and John LaBruzzo. She is preceded in death by her parents, her brother Thomas and his wife Marguerite, and her loving husband Victor, to whom she was married for 72 years before his death in 2018.
Mary is survived by her daughters Agnes (Vito) Testa and Catherine Pisano; grandchildren Vito Testa, Alisa Testa-Finelli (Joseph Finelli), and Nino Testa (Michael Diaz) of Pittsburgh; great-grandchildren Serafina and Massimo Finelli; two surviving sisters-in-law, Rose Bellomo of Tonawanda, NY and Josephine Pecora of West Seneca, New York; and many nieces and nephews.
Mary was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Parish in Akron where she was married, and she was proud to have seen her daughter and granddaughter married there as well. She was a member of the Sicilian-American Women's Club, a former tour guide at the Old Stone School, and was proud to have volunteered for John F. Kennedy's presidential election campaign. She worked in her home as a devoted mother and grandmother throughout her life, caring for and feeding her family.
Nani, as she was called by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, loved cheering for the Cleveland Cavs, watching her grandchildren's and great-grandchildren's many extracurricular activities, playing cards, and talking on the phone with her dear friends and family, especially those who did not live nearby. Mary's favorite day was Sunday, when the family would gather at her home while she cooked too much sauce, rolled too many meatballs, and shared lessons through storytelling. The Sunday before she died, her entire family gathered with her one last time, which was all she had hoped for in her final days.
Her family would like to thank her home health aide Tricia Morgan for the care and love that she showed to Mary and the family; special friend of the family Samantha Shapiro; and the wonderful team in the Palliative Care Unit at Summa Hospital who took such good care of Mary.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, December 21 from 5 to 8 pm at the Anthony Funeral Homes Kucko-Anthony-Kertesz Chapel, 1990 S. Main in Akron. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, 11:00 am, at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church 83 Mosser Place in Akron. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in Akron.
