Mary Lou Patton Hiebsch of Stow, formerly of Akron, 88, passed away Saturday, December 2, 2023 with her family by her side.
Mary Lou, daughter of Farmer Patton and Nora Kersey Patton, was born in Ashland, Kentucky on October 20, 1935. The family moved to Akron, Ohio in 1941 and to Granger, Ohio in Medina County in 1942. She graduated from Granger-Sharon High School in 1952 and attended Ohio University and The University of Akron. She was a member of the Firestone Park Presbyterian Church.
Mary Lou was employed for five years at Firestone, one year with Summit County Red Cross and 46 years with an architectural firm, retiring in June 2014.
While working at Firestone, Mary Lou met Jack C. Hiebsch and they were married for 56 wonderful years. Jack passed away in January 2013.
In addition to her parents, husband and in-laws, She was preceded in death by her brother, Fred Patton and sister-in-law Linda Batche Patton, and grandson Joel Zippay. She is survived by daughter and son-in-law Jeannie and Lester Poast of Mount Gilead, Ohio; daughter and son-in-law Beth and Jim Zippay of Westerville, Ohio; five grandchildren Cynthia Poast Brenneman (Adam), Laura Poast Bertsch (Isaiah), Kevin Poast (Angela), Gabriel Zippay, and AJ Zippay; two great-grandchildren, Caleb Brenneman and Meredith Brenneman; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
At Mary Lou's request, there will be no calling hours. A private graveside service will be held. Burial will be at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman, Ohio.
